The numbers and information we cite below come from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).

Breast Augmentation

In 2018, there were 313,735 breast augmentation procedures performed in the United States. That’s up 4% from the total number of breast enlargement surgeries performed in 2017 (300,378). Breast augmentation has been the most popular cosmetic surgery in the US for several years straight.

Liposuction

Liposuction was the second most popular plastic surgery procedure in 2018. The ASPS recorded 258,558 liposuctions in 2018. That’s up 5% from the total number of liposuctions in 2017 (246,354). Since spot reduction exercise is a myth, a targeted fat removal surgery like liposuction will continue to be popular.

Nose Job (Rhinoplasty)

Up next is the nose job, which is consistently ranked as the most popular facial plastic surgery procedure each year. In 2018, there were 213,780 nasal rehashing surgeries, which is actually down 2% from the previous year (218,924).

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery is another consistently popular facial plastic surgery procedure, ranking high each year for the last several years. There were 206,529 surgical eye lift procedures in 2018, down just 1% from the previous year (209,571).

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

After losing a lot of weight or having a baby, the only way to get rid of those stretch marks and that loose, sagging skin is a tummy tuck. There were 130,081 tummy tucks performed in 2018, which is up a fraction of a percent from 2017’s total (129,753).

Facelift

Up next in our look at popular plastic surgery procedures is the tried and true facelift. There were 121,531 facelifts performed in 2018, which is down 3% from 2017 numbers (125,697). This is part of a steady decline in the popularity of the facelift, but we’ll discuss that in more detail below.

Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

The breast lift is another popular breast enhancement procedure, and ideal for drooping breasts due to advanced age, nursing, or weight loss. There were 109,638 breast lifts performed in 2018, a 4% increase from the 105,219 breast lifts performed in 2017.

Breast Reconstruction

Finally, let’s round out this list of popular surgical procedures with a reconstructive surgery. There were 101,657 breast reconstruction surgeries performed in 2018, down 4% from the 106,295 surgeries performed in 2017. The Rise of Cosmetic Injectables

We mentioned above that the facelift has been dipping in popularity over the years. Part of the reason for that is the rise in cosmetic injectables. BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers have been surging in popularity for the last two decades, offering a non-surgical alternative to the facelift and other surgical rejuvenation procedures.

For a sense of this boom in injectables, there were more than 7.4 million BOTOX injections in 2018, and more than 2.6 million dermal filler injections. That is a major surge in non-invasive wrinkle reduction procedures.
