Eyelid Surgery

For some patients, the signs of aging affect the eyes far more than they affect other areas of the face and body. If you feel self-conscious about the appearance of your eyes, you may feel disheartened every time you look in the mirror and see the unwanted heavy upper brows or deep under eye circles in your reflection. Use of eye creams and laser treatments may help minimize these areas of concerns for a short period of time. But eventually, you will need to undergo eyelid rejuvenation surgery so that a plastic surgeon can permanently remove the excess skin and fat that has accumulated around the eyes.

Kennesaw surgeons Marcus Crawford and Steven Bailey perform upper and lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) with excellent results, producing a more youthful appearance in our patients. To schedule your eyelid consultation with our surgeons, contact our practice today.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Upper eyelid surgery can have a dramatic effect on your appearance and can often improve visual disturbances caused by the excess skin. Following surgery, the results are often subtle, but have an enormous impact on your overall appearance. Patients often feel that they look “refreshed” after surgery and will often receive similar comments after their surgery. In select patients, the surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with minimal recovery.

Upper eyelid surgery is designed to treat:

  • Puffiness and excess fat in the upper eyelids
  • Loose and wrinkled skin on the upper brows
  • Excess folds in the upper eyelid skin

In upper eyelid surgery, an incision is made along the crease of the lid. Next, an appropriate amount of skin and excess tissue is removed, and underlying muscles repositioned, to improve upper eyelid contour. Occasionally, some fat is removed from the upper eyelid region to help contour the area and remove some of the puffiness not caused by skin.

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Lower eyelid surgery involves the creation of a small incision along the lower lash line or on the inside of the lower eyelid, through which our surgeons can reduce the appearance of:

  • Puffy bags under the eyes
  • Under eye circles
  • Fine lines on the lower lids
  • Skin laxity
  • Droopy lower lids

Lower eyelid surgery is often combined with upper eyelid surgery and browlift surgery to provide total rejuvenation around the eyes.  The combination of these surgeries can be a powerful tool to restoring a more youthful appearance.

After Eyelid Surgery

After eyelid surgery, you may experience some minor pain, bruising, and swelling around the eyes. Any discomfort is easily treated with pain pills, cold compresses, and lubricating eye drops. The side effects of eyelid surgery usually dissipate quickly, within just a few days of treatment. For the first week after surgery, you should avoid wearing makeup and take some time off of work and other obligations so you can focus on your recovery.

The resulting scars are well concealed so that the results of your surgery look as natural as possible. Within a short period of time following surgery, all swelling will subside and the scars will fade, producing a more rejuvenated appearance.
